Margaret Ellingson is Head of Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Course Reserves at the Woodruff Main and Health Sciences Libraries of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She started her ILL career in 1982 as a student assistant in an earlier incarnation of the department she now leads. In 1988, she became thelast graduate of Emory’s Division of Library and Information Management, was appointed ILL Librarian at Emory’s Main Library in 1989 and ended up blooming where she was planted.
 
Margaret was a founding member and an early chair of STARS, the Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section of ALA’s Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), served as a Member-at-Large on the RUSA Board, and as member and/or chair of many committees in ALA and other resource sharingorganizations. She has participated in the development and revision of several national resource sharing guidelines, including the Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States and its Explanatory Supplement. 

Margaret was a founding organizer of the Southeastern Resource Sharing Conference and has made many conference presentations and authored publications on resource sharing and related topics over the years, including the opening chapter of ALA’s Interlibrary Loan Practices Handbook (3rdedition, 2011), which she co-authored with Susan Morris. 

Margaret can hardly believe she has accumulated over 40 years of experience in interlibrary loan & resource sharing. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Susan Morris is Resource Sharing Librarian at the University of Georgia (UGA). She began working at the UGA Library in 1972 as a library assistant in acquisitions, was moved by lucky chance to interlibrary loan during a major reorganization in 1974, graduated from Emory University’s School of Library andInformation Science in 1984, and then worked as a reference librarian at UGA for 5 years. 

She was appointed head of interlibrary loan in 1989. As ILL came into prominence in the 1990’s, Susan served on committees in several state and regional resource sharing organizations including GOLD and SOLINET (now part of Lyrasis). She was part of the team that developed GIL-Express, the UniversitySystem of Georgia’s 25-library direct borrowing system. 

Susan has held all offices in the Academic Division of the Georgia Library Association (GLA) and served as President of GLA in 2014. At the regional level, Susan served as the first Chair of ASERL’s ILL Oversight Committee in 1993 and was a member of the planning committee for the first SERS Conference, held at UNC-Charlotte in 2018. 

Susan has given presentations on various aspects of resource sharing from the state to the national level, including at ALA. She has contributed articles to the Georgia Librarian and the New Georgia Encyclopedia and is co-author, with Margaret, of the chapter on the history of interlibrary loan in ALA’sInterlibrary Loan Practices Handbook (3 rd edition, 2011).
